Calamity in Camberwell by Alice Castle @DDsDiary #BlogTour @rararesources #Giveaway #Review

I'm thrilled to be sharing my review for Calamity in Camberwell by Alice Castle as part of the blog tour today. Also don't forget to check out the fab giveaway but first of all let's take a look at the description for the book...

Beth Haldane, SE21's answer to Miss Marple, worries she is losing a kindred spirit when her friend Jen, the only other single mum in the playground, suddenly gets married and moves to Camberwell.
Soon Beth has to face much more pressing fears. Has something gone horribly wrong with Jen's marriage? What is her husband really up to? Why is her daughter leading Beth's son astray? And where on earth IS Jen anyway?

As Beth's friends push her to start dating again, Beth turns to Met Police DI Harry York for help. But will they solve the mystery in time, or will it turn out that in south east London, not everyone gets to live happily ever after?

I have really been enjoying The London Murder Mysteries series each book has had a brilliant mystery just waiting for Beth to come along to help solve the case. Just like the other books I would class this book as a cosy style read but there is so much more to this story and this series that I love. Even though it isn't as dark as some other mystery books there are some darker issues explored but it all works well as nothing is shown just hinted at in a sensitive way.

One of the things I enjoy most about this series is Beth as she is such a brilliant character and I think in this story we get to know her even better. I always find Beth pretty relatable she is trying to juggle her life the best she can and in this book there is an added pressure as she is a little unsure about what to do for the best in regards to her son and his education. As usual Beth finds herself tangled up in a situation and it always feels as if you are experiencing everything with Beth, it's great playing detective right alongside her!

There is humour in Alice Castle's writing that makes her books very engaging and it is very easy to be drawn into the drama that surrounds Beth and her friends. I will say that there is more personal side to the story than what I have seen before in the other books as she looks to the future and maybe even thinking about the possibility of romance! When I look back and think of the other books they all have a slightly different feel to them which I guess keeps this series fresh and fun. The plot moves at a good pace it does have a more slower build up to the actual crime but add in a few twists and turns and it really makes for an enjoyable read!

Four stars from me!
