Rae reads... The Earl's Return by Callie Hutton

About the book:

London, 1819. Four years ago, Darius, the Earl of Redgrave fled London two weeks before his wedding to Lady Mary’s sister and married another woman. Now a widower, he has returned to seek a new wife.

One woman catches his eye . . .

At first, Lady Mary doesn’t recognize the handsome lord as the cad who ran out on her sister. After giving him the cut direct in a London ballroom, she finds herself running into him everywhere she goes, and fighting a forbidden attraction. Not only has Mary sworn off men, Redgrave is so very wrong for her. But she cannot stop thinking of his kisses. Redgrave means to stay away from Mary but it is impossible. Passion between two people who can never be together is a dangerous game.
My thoughts:

The description for The Earl's Return caught my eye, the last couple of books I read were contemporary romances. So it was quite a nice change to pick up a historical romance to read.

I thought the chemistry between Darius and Mary was perfect, their interactions were fiery and passionate. I couldn't wait to see if they would get their happy ending and how it would come about. My favourite character had to be Darius he was the perfect lead determined, smart and always trying to do the right thing even if that came at a price.

The story moved at a good pace, it was an easy read and I finished the book really quickly. This book is part of a series but can be easily read as a standalone with no confusion over characters etc.

Overall:

The Earl's Return was very enjoyable and at times I couldn't put it down!

Four and half stars from me!
