About the book

Stuck in a dead-end relationship, Erica Bennett finds herself daydreaming of her first holiday romance. She was fifteen, it was exciting, new and full of possibilities…and Jack Lawson was hot as hell. That kind of thing leaves a mark.

So when her friends suggest a girls holiday to Luna Island, it’s exactly what she needs to take her mind off things. What she doesn’t expect is to spot Jack – a much older, hotter version of him – across the hotel lobby.

Their attraction is still there and it isn’t long before sparks fly, but fifteen years is a long time. They aren’t the same people they were back then and besides, it’s only a week, right?

Is it a second chance at something real or will their excess baggage ruin their shot at love after they leave Luna Island?

My Review

I always enjoy Laura Barnard's books and with that in mind I jumped at the chance to read Excess Baggage. So what did I think...

A fun and entertaining story that held my interest completely with the antics of this group of friends. Erica can't believe her eyes when she ends up face to face with her first romance. You can definitely feel the connection that they share but will they ever get their timing right and end up with a happy ever after?

I really enjoyed the fact that you get to see the story from both Erica and Jack's point of view. It kept the story interesting as you got to see things from both sides. There are lots of funny moments mainly involving Erica in embarrassing situations. I enjoyed how snippets from the past are revealed and we get to see what happened between Erica and Jack. There are some pretty sizzling moments and the chemistry that they share is undeniable.

I loved this group of friends, all with different personalities but somehow ending up staying friends. I have to say out of the group my favourite was Brooke as she is just great. She is self assured but such a good friend with no judgements levelled at Erica. There is swearing in this book and even though this didn't bother me I know people can be put off by it so I thought I would just mention it. The story is down to earth with plenty of laughs so if you are in need of cheering up this book would be perfect! I actually finished Excess Baggage in one evening as I had to find out how it would all end.

A fun story with a hot and steamy romance!

Thank you to Laura Barnard for my copy. This is my honest and unbiased opinion.
