I am delighted to be one of the first stops on the blog tour for The Cold Room by Karen Long. I have really enjoyed getting to know the character of Eleanor Raven in Karen Long's previous books The Safe Word and The Vault. Today I have a review to share along with the chance to enter a great giveaway.
First of all though let's take a look at the description for the book...
THE COLD ROOM
Publication
Date: 8th May 2017
Series:
Eleanor Raven – Book 3
Genre:
Crime / Thriller
The
brand new thriller that will keep you on the edge of your seat from
the author of The Safe Word and The
Vault.
Winter is settling on Toronto and a series of seemingly unconnected murders are weighing heavily on DI Eleanor Raven. When an army veteran holds his family hostage, leaving chaos and an unidentifiable skeletal human hand in his wake, Raven is left tangled in a web of leads, lies and secrets, with each thread leading her closer to the all too terrifying truth.
But with time running out, Raven needs to re-connect with her past life – the one she thought she’d finally escaped from – if she’s to find out who the killer is before they strike again . . .

My Review
Karen Long has again brought a dark and sinister killer into her story, it was great to see a couple of cases happening at the same time with even more victims. As usual I enjoy trying to piece everything together and I think the story benefited from seeing a few sub plots interspersed in the story. I really enjoyed the introduction of a previous character it definitely brought an extra level of intrigue to the story. At the start I thought the plot was going in one direction only to turn around and head off another way. I think in a way the murders in this story aren't as gruesome as in the two previous books. However I would say there is slightly more concentration on the killer and what is going through his mind. It was interesting to hear his thought process and how he reacted to certain things.
By book 3 you get an even better understanding of Eleanor Raven and her motivations. However you also get to see more of her partner Laurence and it was great to see Eleanor and her colleagues at work. The great thing about this set of characters is that they aren't perfect and this makes this series of books stand out for me. Having a slightly damaged lead character is a great idea but even though she has her flaws she is also strong and determined. The story moves both smoothly and quickly meaning I finished this book in no time at all.
The Cold Room is full of dark and twisty moments!
With thanks to Karen Long & Brook Cottage Books for my copy. This is my honest and unbiased opinion.
