The Doomsday Girl by Dave Stanton @DanRenoNovels #BlogBlitz @Bloodhoundbook #Review

I'm delighted to be sharing my review as part of the blog tour for The Doomsday Girl by Dave Stanton. First of all though let's take a look at the description for the book...

Melanie Jordan's life seemed perfect. Until masked intruders arrive at her house, demanding gold she doesn't have. A savage blow to the head puts her in a coma and when Melanie regains consciousness, she learns her husband has been murdered and her ten-year-old daughter is missing.

Private Eye Dan Reno begins investigating, but nothing about the case makes sense. Was there gold at the house or wasn't there? Was Melanie's husband hiding something? And what happened to Melanie's daughter?

To complicate things, the case leads to Las Vegas, where Reno's loose-cannon friend, Cody Gibbons, is trying to repair his relationship with his college-aged daughter, an intern with Las Vegas P.D.

When clues implicate Russian mobsters and a mysterious African illegal, Reno tries to stay in the shadows, but once the criminals feel the noose tightening, they raise the stakes to a deadly level.

As with all the books in this series The Doomsday Girl can be read as a standalone although as with any series to get full character history you might be better starting at the beginning. I can definitely recommend this series every book is action packed with the added bonus of two brilliant characters in Dan and Cody!

In this story Dan is hired to discover the truth behind an assault, murder and disappearance and it's safe to say he has his work cut out for him. I liked the fact that I was kept guessing as to what the motives were for the crime. Melanie's character added something a little different to this book and it was great to play detective and see if I could put the clues together. The locations used in this series are perfect as I love some of the calm and serene places shown but you also get to see what lurks underneath. In this story Las Vegas is one of the settings and you can really get a feel for the darker more unsavoury parts of this city.

As ever there is plenty of action and thrills especially when Cody gets involved, together Dan and Cody make an amazing team and I love how attached to them I have become. I loved the addition of Abbey she was bright and determined and was basically a chip off the old block! The pacing of this story is really balanced with an attention to detail at times, then at other points in the story it is gripping and fast paced which makes for a very compelling story. I really hope there will be more from Dan and Cody!

The Doomsday Girl has surprises and an action packed plot guaranteed to keep you reading until the very last page!

Four stars from me!

With thanks to Sarah at Bloodhound Books for my copy.
