I'm delighted to be sharing my review for The Things We Leave Unsaid by Megan Mayfair as part of the blog tour today. First of all let's take a look at the description for the book...
Is it the things we don’t say that haunt us the most?
Clare is anxious to start a family with adoring
husband, Pete. When she takes on the seemingly simple task of obtaining her
late mother’s birth certificate, she finds herself in a family history search
that will challenge everything she thought she knew about her life.
Scarred by her parents' ill-fated marriage,
Tessa lives by three rules – dating unavailable men, building her café into a
food empire, and avoiding her father. However, when her carefully planned life
is thrown into chaos, Tessa is forced to decide which of these rules she’s
willing to break.
As Clare and Tessa’s paths cross and their
friendship grows, can they both finally unlock their family secrets in order to
realise their futures?

I never expected to get caught up in the characters lives as much as I did, their personalities were developed really well. As we get to hear about their pasts it definitely helps to understand them even more. With Clare there is a family mystery waiting to be solved and with Tessa her past threatens to interfere with her future. I really enjoyed seeing the friendship between the pair grow and how they were a support to each other. In a way both characters have their flaws which for me makes them even more relatable and likeable.
There are some emotional themes especially if you have gone through any of the events that Clare goes through. However it adds a depth to the story that made me root for her character and even though there are some pretty emotional moments there is also a lovely lightness to the story that created a wonderful balance. The story also has a little bit of humour especially as we see Tessa and Clare get caught up in some PR work in a bid to help make the café an even more popular place to visit.
The Things We Leave Unsaid moves at a lovely pace and I easily became involved in the story. There is romance along with friendships and relatable issues that makes it such an uplifting read!
