Journeying

Noah has
a darkness inside him and is hounded by nightmares from his past. Tortured,
trapped and struggling to save his fractured relationship, he knows this
journey is not going to help, but try telling his girlfriend that.
As their lives
and lies become ever more entwined, it becomes clear that in the frozen wilds
there is nowhere to hide.

After reading the description I was so intrigued by this group of characters and the mystery surrounding their pasts. I couldn't wait to start reading and I loved that I had no idea what was in store.
First of all I have to talk about the wonderfully descriptive writing that sets the scene perfectly. The setting was ideal creating an almost wild and pure environment, making the characters face their troubles head on. It really is the adventure of a lifetime and I'm so glad that I was able to experience the journey too. One of my dreams is to visit the Northern Lights although I'm not sure I could do what this group did.
Laurie Ellingham has created a story capable of highlighting the emotion felt by the characters at any given time. The ability to write something that will make the reader connect emotionally is a fantastic skill and this author does this with ease. The transition from the different points of view was smooth and clear with three very distinct characters with their own problems. One thing I have to mention is that the characters were from a place very near to where I live so i could easily imagine their accents. Whether this helped to bring them to life even more for me I'm not sure.
Emotional in parts especially with feelings of grief and guilt trapping the characters and stopping them from moving on. However there is also a wonderful strength and hope all captured within the pages of this story.
Ours is the Winter is a truly vivid and wonderful story, five stars!

When I'm not running around after my two children, my husband, our Cockerpoo Rodney, or just plain running, I love nothing more than disappearing into the fictional world of my characters preferably with a large coffee and a Twix (or two) to hand.
When I am in the thick of a character crisis, I can often be seen walking around the village with my jumper on inside out and back to front, chatting (and occasionally laughing) away to myself.
I have a first class honours degree in psychology and a background in Public Relations, both of which help in everything I do.
