Blog Tour - Review - A Drakenfall Christmas by Geralyn Corcillo

A Drakenfall Christmas by Geralyn Corcillo

Blurb:

Mark and Maisy, ahem, that is, Lord and Lady Shiley, get ready to celebrate their first Christmas together at Drakenfall, their renowned estate-turned-resort in the heart of the Cotswolds. The energetic and very un-aristocratic couple spreads holiday cheer as they conspire in guest shenanigans and staff kerfuffles.

In an uncharacteristic turn, unflappable house manager Glynis Ferry seems to be getting her duster ruffled every time she catches sight of Shaun Fletcher, the new head groomsman. Pippa Taylor, a whirling dervish of a domestic, works below stairs to make the magic of Drakenfall happen for everyone else. But will there ever be enough magic left over for her? There will if most worthy valet Kafi Diop has anything to say about it, as he tries to spin holiday enchantment every which way. But his best laid plans always seem to go cataclysmically awry, even with Maisy helping out as his faithful sidekick.

And what about Kafi’s grandest of schemes, set to take flight at the Drakenfall Christmas Ball? He’s depending on guest Jamie Tovell, who’s depending on his secret crush Lea Sinclair.

But even if everything goes off without a hitch, will the secret Maisy’s been hiding from Mark all season pop up at the most inopportune moment to set everything asunder? It’s a Drakenfall Christmas … topsy turvy, but generously sprinkled with laughter and lavishly frosted with romance!

My Review

Even though I hadn't read the first book in the series Upstairs, Downstairs ... and the Lift in Between I quickly learnt who was who and didn't feel confused at all.

The characters all had their quirks and were well written and even though this is a novella I felt like I got to know them pretty well. There is a good mix of characters but not too many that the story loses its momentum. All of the characters work brilliantly together, they are basically one big family who look out for each other.

I loved the setting for this book and with it being set at Christmas it's all the more magical. It was great to see multiple stories threaded throughout. I never felt like I had to write down who the characters were and the story was also easy to follow. I have to say Glynis and Shaun were my favourite pairing and I loved their interactions with each other.

When I get the chance I will have to take a look at the first book in the Drakenfall series if it's anything like A Drakenfall Christmas I will definitely enjoy it.

Charming, romantic and engaging!

Five stars from me!

  1. Rae, Thank you for contributing to this dazzling tour and thank you for sharing your wonderful thoughts about my book with your fans! I wanted to create a Christmas confection of delight for readers, and from your review, it sounds like I did just that :) A little history of The Drakenfall Series for your fans who want to read along: The first book, Upstairs, Downstairs ... and the Lift in Between is a 52 page, 15K novella I originally wrote for the Romantic Comedy anthology Love in an Elevator, which came out this summer and was an immediate Amazon bestseller. Now the story is also available on its own for 99 cents - it is the "origin story" of when and how Mark and Maisy meet. A Drakenfall Christmas, 202 page 61K word book which was published in October, takes place about eight months after Upstairs, and it is the story of Mark and Maisy's first Christmas together at Drakenfall and stories of various guests and staff :) Thank you so much for sharing your joy in this book with your readers, Rae! Have a wonderful holiday season.

  2. Oh, and PS Rae - I totally pictured Greta Scacchi and Robson Green as Glynis and Shaun when I was writing it :)
