Fatal Inheritance by Rachel Rhys @MsTamarCohen #BlogTour @annecater @TransworldBooks #Review

I'm thrilled to be sharing my review for Fatal Inheritance by Rachel Rhys as part of the blog tour today. First of all though let's take a look at the description for the book...

Reminiscent of a Golden Age mystery, Fatal Inheritance is an intoxicating story of
dysfunctional families and long-hidden secrets, set against the razzledazzle and decadence of the French Riviera.

1948: an English housewife trapped in a dull marriage escapes to the South of France to claim a mystery inheritance. She didn’t have an enemy in the world, until she inherited a fortune.

Out of the blue, Eve Forrester receives a solicitor’s letter. A wealthy stranger has left her a mystery inheritance but in order to find out more, she must travel to the glittering French Riviera. Eve
discovers her legacy is an enchanting villa overlooking the Mediterranean sea andsuddenly, life could not be more glamorous.

But while she rubs shoulders with film-stars and famous writers, under the heat of the golden sun, rivals to her unexplained fortune begin to emerge. Rivals who want her out of the way.

Well after reading the description I couldn't help but pick up this book and I'm so glad that I did. Eve leads a normal if not very satisfying life until one day everything changes and this is the beginning of a story that will make her question everything.

I love to be transported to locations when I am reading and Rachel Rhys manages this with skill from vivid descriptions of the area to the characters. The setting is beautiful, adding such a stunning feel to the story and I felt as if it was just as important as the characters I was getting to know.

The mystery aspect to this story was written in a way that made me so curious and kept me turning the pages until I finally knew everything. With bits of information revealed but then another layer added to the mystery all bringing more intrigue to the story. The historical side to this story also brings so much depth and I felt as if I had found something truly special. With secrets simmering below the surface just waiting to burst out and be revealed there is a tension there that easily grabbed hold of me too.

Eve is such a stunning character that seemed to evolve before my eyes and I loved the journey she went on from encountering new places to the people she met. Everything is like a new world to Eve with brand new experiences that is such a contrast to her life back home. Each character brings something special to the plot from the friendly, the ambivalent and then some verging on hostile. There is something special about Fatal Inheritance and although it makes for a wonderful summer read it is also the perfect book for any time of the year!

I was captivated by this beautiful story from the first page to the last!

Five stars from me!

With thanks to Anne Cater and Transworld for my copy.
