#Review - Deep Down Dead by Steph Broadribb @crimethrillgirl @OrendaBooks

About the book

Lori Anderson is as tough as they come, managing to keep her career as a fearless Florida bounty hunter separate from her role as single mother to nine-year-old Dakota, who suffers from leukaemia. But when the hospital bills start to rack up, she has no choice but to take her daughter along on a job that will make her a fast buck. And that’s when things start to go wrong. The fugitive she’s assigned to haul back to court is none other than JT, Lori’s former mentor – the man who taught her everything she knows … the man who also knows the secrets of her murky past.

Not only is JT fighting a child exploitation racket operating out of one of Florida’s biggest theme parks, Winter Wonderland, a place where ‘bad things never happen’, but he’s also mixed up with the powerful Miami Mob. With two fearsome foes on their tails, just three days to get JT back to Florida, and her daughter to protect, Lori has her work cut out for her. When they’re ambushed at a gas station, the stakes go from high to stratospheric, and things become personal.

My Review

I can always tell when a book completely grabs my attention as I find myself thinking about the story even when I'm not reading it, Deep Down Dead is a perfect example of this. I would be sat at my desk working away and then a thought popped into my head about where I imagined the storyline would go. Then I couldn't wait to pick the book up again and see if I was right or if I was way off the mark.

The characters instantly helped to draw me into the story. I really enjoyed the fact that they had the odd flaw this made them so much more realistic. Along with their complicated lives that added extra depth to the storyline. Lori is the kind of person who takes charge and acts fast. She is a completely believable character and Steph Broadribb really brought her to life before my eyes. It was great to see her character so protective of her daughter it also added an extra layer of tension. I couldn't help but become attached to Lori and her daughter and I enjoyed their family dynamic. You could tell straight away that Lori would do anything for Dakota.

I can't begin to tell you how fast the story moved there were certainly no slow parts in this book! I will totally admit that a few times I ended up sitting bolt upright as things got so tense. Definitely like being on a high speed rollercoaster at Disneyworld! I'm not going to give any of the plot away but I will say that it is full of action, tension and engaging characters. Action that carried through right from the beginning to the very end my attention was well and truly captured. I can't praise this book enough and my big question is when can I read the next book in this series?

If you are looking for a fast paced and thrilling story then you will have picked up the right book with Deep Down Dead!

Five stars from me!

Thank you to Karen at Orenda Books for my copy. This is my honest and unbiased opinion.
